LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Firefighters worked to battle a house fire early Thursday morning, which they later ruled as a total loss.
It happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Comfort Street.
Tierra Vasquez and her three of her children were inside of the home when the fire started, but made it out safely.
The Red Cross has come in to help the family and has placed them in a hotel for the time being.
For now, friends are just trying to comfort Vasquez as she tries to move forward. "She's devastated as well. And we're just hoping that we can be able to get help and make sure that she makes it through this."
Arson investigators say, "it's a complex case that has turned criminal."
"It's possible that one of the alleged friends set the house on fire. As we piece this together, we end up locating that person and took them into custody," said Sgt. Cressman with the Lansing Police Department.
That 29-year-old Lansing man is in custody for home invasion, not arson. Police and fire officials are still trying to piece things together.
