Second Annual National Welcoming Week

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – On Tuesday Governor Rick Snyder was at the Capitol welcoming visitors to Michigan for the second annual "National Welcoming Week." Several new billboards have been put up throughout the state, designed to promote meaningful connections and a spirit of unity between the U.S. and non-native Americans. Staff and community supporters gathered Tuesday for a press conference at the Capitol to recognize the national event and its Michigan presence.

"When Michigan welcomes immigrants, Michigan thrives. We are doing a series of activities around the state… Although this is what we do year round with our initiative," said Susan Reed, Michigan Immigration Rights Center. Michigan is now one of 22 communities participating in the "Welcoming America" campaign.
