One Dead After Drug-Related Homicide

Posted: Updated:

CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) - An early morning homicide had four different agencies on the scene in Clinton County on Wednesday.

It happened around 3 a.m. at the 2000 block of W. Taft Road. One man living in the home, 28-year-old Jauwan Gaylord Butler from Detroit was killed in a shooting.

Police say the crime was drug-related and that the people living in the home were specifically targeted. There was what looked like a marijuana growing operation in the basement of the house.

The woman leasing the home has a medical marijuana card, but a detective from the Clinton County Sheriff's Department says the number of plants in the home were well-above the legal limit for medical marijuana growers. Police say it looks like the shooters stole a lot of the plants.

There was a child living there and she was the daughter of another man who was living in the house. She is now with her biological mother in the Detroit area.

Police are searching for suspects and have not filed any charges.
