Navy Yard Details Coming Out

Posted: Updated:

The Navy Yard details are starting to surface and more information is coming out about the suspect's mental health problems.

(CBS) - The FBI is still searching for a motive behind Monday's massacre at the Washington Navy Yard. Friends and family say the shooting suspect, Aaron Alexis has a history of mental health problems. Police records show Alexis called authorities in Rhode Island six weeks ago, claiming he was hearing voices and people were stalking him. The Navy was notified, but the contractor kept his security clearance and started doing IT work at the D.C. Naval installation in late August.

"It's like Dr. Jecky and Mr. Hyde who was this guy. The guy that I knew was so honorable," said Melinda Downs, friend of Aaron Alexis.

Alexis was undergoing treatment from the Department of Veterans Affairs for his mental health issues before the shooting.
