Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - In an effort to gain control of their budget, Jackson College issued 14 full-time and three part-time layoff notices to employees. They say the cuts due to a decline in student enrollment for the fall semester and the projected fiscal year. Enrollment has dropped 33 percent over the last three years.

The college says that in order for the 2013-14 budget to remain in balance, the reductions were necessary. There were also reductions in the equipment, supplies, public relations, energy efficiency, professional development, repair, maintenance, and operational departments, all part of cutting a required $3.5 million. College President Daniel J. Phelan will address the current budget at his State of the College address on Tuesday, September 24 at the Harold Sheffer Music Hall in the Potter Center.
