Congressman Mike Rogers on Kenya

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - John Kerry isn't the only politician addressing the situation in Kenya, lawmakers and congressmen are weighing in as well. Earlier Monday Shelby Miller talked to Congressman Mike Rogers.

Shelby Miller, "When I spoke to Congressman Mike Rogers earlier today, he told me the Somali-based terrorist group, which has ties to Al-Qaeda, targeted this mall because it's known to be visited by westerners. He says this terrorist group has a history of recruiting Somali-American men from the United States. And as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rogers calls the situation a dangerous and on-going trend the U.S. must pay attention to"

"Easy access to the United States makes them incredibly dangerous. So, if they survived, or had survived this particular event, that means you have a trained terrorist, Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda affiliated, with good transportation back to the United States, which is very, very concerning," said Rep. Mike Rogers (R), Michigan.

Rogers says he believes the attack was even larger than officials originally thought. He expects information to continue to unfold over the next couple days.
