Man Accused Of Stabbing MSU Student To Death On Trial

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - An Okemos teenager, accused of fatally stabbing MSU senior Andrew Singler, appeared in court Monday for his murder trial.

The prosecuting attorney and defense focused many questions on social media and self defense when choosing the jurors who will determine Connor McCowan's fate.

The 19-year-old is charged with open murder in the February stabbing of Singler at his Meridian Township apartment. Singler, 23, was the boyfriend of McCowan's older sister.

Court records show the fatal fight stemmed from a text messaging argument and esculated at the apartment.

After the attack, court documents show McCowan ran from the scene to his home in Okemos, where he was arrested.

The trial was originally delayed after the first judge removed himself from the case since he knew the defendant's family. He's expected back in court Tuesday for opening statements. Stay with 6 News and we'll have much more on this story.
