Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The murder trial of Okemos teen, Connor McCowan continued Monday when his sister, Shay, and father testified.

McCowan choked back tears as his older sister took the stand. She lived with Singler and dated him for two years. She says the two fought frequently, sometimes even physically, but called him her best friend. Shay recounted Connor and Singler's relationship, saying the two were like brothers and never fought before that fatal February morning.

Throughout the day, attorney's focused on social media and showed threatening text messages sent between the three. Members of the defendant's family held tissues and wiped away tears, as Connor's father, Randy McCowan, took the stand. He's expected back in court to finish testimony on Tuesday.

Testimony also came from Sparrow Hospital doctors who tried to save Singler. Dr. Ben Mosher, a trauma surgeon, said he had "no pulse, no blood pressure; he was pretty much dead."

Connor looked away as attorneys showed graphic pictures of Singler's stabbed arm, chest and heart.

McCowan is charged will killing Shay's boyfriend, Andrew Singler back in February.

In court on Friday, Meridian Township Police Investigator Greg Harris read the violent and taunting text messages between Connor and Singler that police say started after Shay contacted her brother about the fight she and Singler were in.
