18-Year-Old Hit By Car While Riding Bike

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) - Jackson County Sheriff officials are investigating after a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle.

It happened just before 3p.m. Monday at Spring Arbor Road and Smiley Way in Summit Township.

The 18-year-old on the bike, a Lumen Christi High School student, was trying to cross the street when he was hit. Another 18-year-old from Jackson County was driving a Ford Crown Victoria sedan when the bike crossed in front of him.

The cyclist sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to Allegiance Health and was listed in "serious condition."

Deputies do not suspect speed or alcohol in the crash. It remains under investigation.
