Posted: Updated:

MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) - A man charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Michigan State Police Trooper has waived another key hearing in the court cases against him.

On Monday, Eric Knysz waived his right to a preliminary hearing on gun, assault and car-theft charges in Manistee County.

The charges stem from the aftermath of Trooper Paul Butterfield's death. Butterfield was killed during a traffic stop last month in Mason County's Sherman Township.

Knysz also is charged with murder of a peace officer and other crimes in Mason County. Knysz' wife, Sarah Knysz, also waived her right to a hearing on different felony charges in Mason County.

Her car-theft hearing Monday in Manistee County was delayed.
