The 5th Quarter Wins In The Ratings

According to the ratings, the 5th Quarter is mid-Michigan's most watched Friday night high school sports show.

Over the last year, the show starring anchors Fred Heumann and Kevin Gehl won 7 of the 8 weeks in which the ratings were measured.

On some Friday nights, the 5th Quarter won by a margin of more than 10,000 households.

In November of 2012, the 5th Quarter won three of the four Friday nights. Some 70,000 households tuned into the show that month, compared to another station's 57,800.

In February of 2013, when the 5th Quarter turned to basketball, the margin of victory got even bigger. The show swept all four weeks that were measured, and won the total number of households 97,000 to a little more than 71,000.

The 5th Quarter typically has more mid-Michigan highlights than any other show, and it posts extended highlights of those games on its award-winning website.

Nielsen - the company that tabulates the ratings - also gathers viewer data in May and July, but there's no Friday night high school sports shows during those months.

You can catch the 5th Quarter on Friday nights at 11:15 p.m. on both WLNS-TV (the CBS affiliate) and on WLAJ-TV (the ABC affiliate).
