'Walmart Hero' Unsure If He'll Accept Company's Offer To Re-Hire

(WLNS) – The Livingston County man who was fired from a Hartland Walmart last week for helping a woman during an assault says he's not sure if he'll accept the company's offer to rehire him.

"I wholeheartedly thank Walmart for seeing what everyone else sees and offering my position back, but at this time, I am still weighing all of my available options," says Kristopher Oswald. "I have to figure out what's best for me at this point."

Oswald was thrust into the national spotlight Friday after he rushed to the aid of a woman being assaulted by her boyfriend in a Walmart parking lot last Sunday. He says he was on his lunch break when he heard the woman screaming. After going over to help, Oswald says the suspect became violent. Oswald says when a manager came outside, he was suspended immediately and fired two days after that.

By Friday, Oswald's story had gone viral. Walmart then offered to rehire him, but so far Oswald has been hesitant. The company issued a statement to WLNS on Friday, but Oswald says there was never a formal apology from the company.

Since Friday, Oswald says he's received a number of job opportunities from various companies he never dreamed he could work for.

"I've kind of always been stuck in the whole dead end job kind of thing. And it's only now that I realize I can actually do more," says Oswald. "This all started with helping people and that's what I truly wish to do."
