Bill Requiring 16-Ounce Pints May Not Be Needed

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - An official says a bill proposed by some Michigan lawmakers to make sure a pint of beer is really a pint of beer may not be needed because of current law.

MLive.com reports beer drinkers who don't receive their fair share currently may file a complaint through Michigan's Weights and Measures Act.

Craig VanBuren is director of the consumer protection section of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. VanBuren says the department has received three or four complaints on the issue in the last decade. He says they were checked out and no problems were found.

A bill drew wide attention after it was introduced earlier this year to amend the Liquor Control Act and require each pint of beer have at least 16 ounces.
