LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Fire drove a Lansing family from their home early Tuesday morning.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. at a house along the 2500 block of W. Jolly Road.

Firefighters tell 6 News a father and his two children were home when the fire started.

He smelled smoke, saw the flames, grabbed the kids, and got out of the house.

The fire broke out mainly in the rear of the home and stayed away from the main part of the home.

Firefighters arrived and put the fire out, though they were still on the scene dousing hot spots about an hour later.

They have not said anything on the extent of damage as a result of the fire.

Firefighters are still trying to figure out what sparked the flames and have not said whether the family has been displaced.
