LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - On Monday, police investigated an incident where a woman was shot at while backing out of a home.

It happened around 3:26 p.m. Monday on the 300 block of N. Butler. Police found a 20-year-old woman near the vehicle with minor facial injuries. The woman is believed to be the driver.

Police say prior to the accident, the victim was backing out from a home on the 200 block of N. Butler. When she was backing up, another vehicle drove by and a suspect inside the second vehicle fired a hand gun at the victim. The suspect vehicle took off after firing multiple shots. The 20-year-old woman drove away, but shortly after lost control of her vehicle and hit a utility pole.

The woman was not seriously injured as a result of the shooting. Due to the crash with the utility pole, the woman did have a minor injury to her face. She received medical treatment on the scene.

Police say the suspect is a 20-year-old African American male with a thin build and several tattoos. The suspect vehicle is a four-door maroon colored sedan with a black stripe. The vehicle described is missing all hub caps.

After police investigation, they discovered the shooting was not a random act. They believe it happened because of a previous incident that involved the victim.
