Snyder Hosting 2nd Summit To Stop Computer Attacks

Posted: Updated:

NOVI, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder is preparing to host the state's second cyber summit.

The event occurring Friday in Novi is designed to help Michigan defend against computer attacks and position the state to take advantage of opportunities in the growing cyber security industry.

The summit is a follow up to a similar event in 2011.

State officials says data theft and breaches from cybercrime can cost businesses as much as $1 trillion globally. Michigan's state government blocked 187,000 computer attacks each day in 2012.

Attacks ranged from spam to web browser attacks to network intrusion. The summit is expected to cover cyber security for businesses, schools, homes, law enforcement and government.
