Local Firefighter Unions Merge

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - In an effort to better serve the fire needs of the community two fire fighter labor unions are becoming one.

The merger is between Lansing fire fighters local 421 and the Delhi Twp. fire fighters that were formally local 4359.

During a press conference Friday morning officials said there will not be any layoffs, and no stations will close.

It's just the labor groups that voted to merge into one.

"Labor is not holding this up. We do not want to be a roadblock in progress. We understand progress and we understand change. We want to be part of it and help the process," said Chris Lake, President, IAFF Local 421.

Lake also says the move will provide residents with the best fire and rescue services.
