State OKs $89M In Energy Assistance Program Grants

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Public Service Commission has approved $89 million in Michigan Energy Assistance Program grants.

The money is going to 14 organizations for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1.

The MPSC approved the grants on Thursday and announced them on Friday.

The commission last month issued a request for proposals soliciting projects that will provide energy assistance programs to help low-income households meet home energy costs.

Based on its review, the MPSC approved grants to the Barry County United Way, the Michigan Community Action Agency Association and the Superior Watershed Partnership, among others.

A majority of the funds will be used by the recipient groups during the so-called "crisis season" that falls between Nov. 1 and May 31.
