TMSG: Costume Shop and Riverwalk Theatre

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - The Halloween season is always one of the most popular times of the year to be in costume, and one local theatre group has found a way to help both productions and everyday people do just that.

Hang around long enough, and you're bound to become someone or something else quite quickly. "There's not anything quite like this in Mid-Michigan," said Katie Doyle, a costume consultant at the Costume Shop in Lansing.

Once a collection of the Lansing Civic Players, the thousands of costumes and pieces are now managed by the Riverwalk Theatre.

"You come in and you give us a deposit and the rental process varies from if you just want an accessory or two. It's a fine resource, you can come in and get anything from any era," said Mara McGill, a Riverwalk volunteer.

And unlike your typical Halloween store, the amazing thing about having an entire theatrical collection at your disposal is you can literally be almost anything.

"Any of the volunteers can help people get something perfect for them," said Doyle.

By renting that cool character costume, you'll be donating back to local theatre, helping keep places like the Costume Shop open and thriving, and the performing arts scene in Mid-Michigan alive and vibrant.

The Costume Shop is located on 2300 East Michigan Avenue in Lansing, up on the second floor. For the hours it's open and more on the rental policy, call 517-484-9199 or visit Seen on 6.
