MSU Rape Suspect Video Confession Revealed

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Oswald Wilder, the man police believe is responsible for a string of sexual assaults near MSU's campus, was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

In August, Wilder confessed to the crimes in a written statement to East Lansing police.

6 News has obtained footage of police detectives interrogating Wilder for nearly five hours, which ultimately led to his confession. The footage shows Wilder was clearly very hesitant to cooperate at the beginning. He denied he was responsible and a few hours into the questioning he sort of broke down and became very emotional.

Wilder actually said he was ashamed of himself for what he'd done to those four MSU students.

Eventually, he asked the East Lansing Detectives if he could write down what he had done, rather than say it. At that point, he made his written statement. At the end of the video, police escorted Wilder out in handcuffs.

6 News spoke with his attorney, who is now waiting for a trial date. He says he doesn't know whether his client would get a fair trial in Ingham County and he says may file a motion to get the case moved to another venue.
