EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State University plans to give an honorary degree to the president of its in-state rival.

The East Lansing school announced Tuesday that University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman will be one of its three speakers for December commencement ceremonies.

Coleman is to speak at the advanced-degree ceremony on Dec. 13. Michigan State says she'll receive an honorary doctorate of laws degree.

Earlier this month, the University of Michigan announced plans to give an honorary degree to Michigan State President Lou Anna Simon. She's to get the honorary doctorate of laws degree during Michigan's December commencement in Ann Arbor.

Dec. 14 speakers at Michigan State are Chrysler Group LLC's CEO Sergio Marchionne, who also leads Fiat, and Steelcase Inc. CEO James Hackett.
