Grants Available To Support Tree Planting Projects

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the DTE Energy Foundation are offering grants to support tree planting projects next year.

Applications are being accepted for matching grants of up to $3,000. A total of $60,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis. All grants must be matched dollar-for-dollar with cash contributions or in-kind services.

Eligible applicants include local governments, nonprofit organizations, native tribes and schools located within the DTE service territory. The trees must be planted on public lands such as parks, street rights of way, arboretum areas and school grounds.

DNR program coordinator Kevin Sayers says the program helps people learn about proper tree planting techniques and avoiding utility conflicts.

Grant applications must be received by Dec. 16.
