Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A groundbreaking in Midtown Thursday morning kicked off construction of a new multi-use building.

66 high-end apartments and an 1,800 square foot PNC Bank Branch will be sprucing up the site of the old Silver Dollar Saloon on Michigan Avenue, which was foreclosed in 2006.

The project is part of the plan to invigorate the corridor between Michigan State University and downtown Lansing.

"This is really going to be the fist redevelopment in the flood plain. I think this is going to define the quantity and quality of redevelopment in the vicinity," said Eric Schertzing, Ingham County Treasurer.

They expect the project to be completed in August of 2014, just in time for the beginning of next school year.
