SUV Rear Ends Slow-Moving Car, Killing One Person

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) -- A Jackson man riding in the backseat of a car was killed Sunday morning after being rear ended by an SUV.

It happened on US-127, one mile south Berry Road, in Rives Township, just after 5:30 a.m.

The Jackson County accident reconstruction team said the car had a flat tire, and was moving slowly in the right lane, when it was rear ended.

Police said there were three people in the slow-moving car. The man riding in the backseat was killed. The driver of the SUV, along with the driver and the passenger of the car, were taken to Allegiance Hospital. Officials said their injuries are not life threatening.

The man driving the SUV told deputies he didn't see the car before he hit it.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said they do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash. It remains under investigation.
