Mich. Reports Salmonella Related To Small Turtles

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan officials say they've investigated five cases of salmonella in people who have contact with small pet turtles in the past 18 months.

The announcement Wednesday said the cases have been linked to three multi-state outbreaks and most of those sickened have been children.

The Michigan Department of Community Health, the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating. Officials say sales of turtles with shells less than 4 inches in length are restricted.
