Eaton County, Lansing Mall Train For Active Shooter Incident

Posted: Updated:

EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) - The Eaton County Sheriff's Office and the Lansing Mall held a joint training exercise on Sunday, Nov. 3. The training was a practice on how to respond to an active, violent incident.

A simulated shooting that involved multiple victims and several suspects was part of the training.

The practice used actors from the Eaton County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Explorer Post, members of the Eaton County Sheriff's Office patrol staff and Special Response Team, along with staff from the Lansing Mall, Lansing Mall Security, Delta Township Fire Department and Eaton County Central Dispatch.

Sheriff Tom Reich said, "In order to minimize the loss of life during an actively violent incident, it is critically important to have strong response plans in place, and to have practiced those plans. An exercise such as this allows us to test and improve our existing plans, and practice coordinating a response involving multiple agencies so that we are all better prepared and more effective should a tragic event occur in this area. I commend all who made this training exercise possible, and thank them for their hard work and commitment to keeping us all safe."
