Lansing's South Library Closed While Crews Remove Wall

If you've tried to get into the South Lansing Library this week you'd be out of luck.

It's been closed for the past few days after employees noticed one of the walls had buckled.

As our Nick Perreault explains while people might be upset, it's a closure that will benefit them in the future.

Construction manager Allen Russell says he got the call after someone noticed an interior wall had shifted.

"It only moved about three inches," Russell said.

Allen Russell says it was enough to need to be repaired. It isn't a structural wall, so fortunately the building isn't at risk of collapsing.

He also says it's an easy fix.

"The library people said it's just going to leave a question in people's minds, how much more work is it to just take it out," the construction manager said.

It means more money to fix and few more days of work, leading workers to close the library.

"That means I've got to go to the other library downtown to get work done, which I like to use their computers," Crystal Noecker said.

"She wanted to watch Return To Oz, can't do it now...I want to watch return to Oz," James Yoder said.

"It's really convenient but then situations like this and they don't tell anybody and you're just stuck out in the cold wondering what we are going to do this Wednesday night," Yoder said.

We spoke with representatives with the South Lansing Library on the phone they told us crews should wrap up last minute changes and be back open by Friday.

"Spend the extra day, spend the extra dollar and do it right," Russell said.

Russell says the wall that was replaced was not part of the renovations this past spring, but a wall that gave way over time.
