UPDATE: The accident is clear and all lanes are open as of 9 a.m. Crews were able to remove the semi from the woods and clean up the diesel fuel.

DEWITT TWP., Mich. (WLNS) - An accident has closed down I-69 westbound, near Old US 27 to one lane due to a SUV and semi crash.

Dewitt Township officials told 6 News the woman driving the SUV hit a deer. She pulled off to the side of the road because her car would not start again.

The semi truck did not see the woman and swerved to get out of the way, clipping the SUV and heading into the woods nearby. The semi was leaking diesel fuel on its way into the woods, prior to stopping.

Both the SUV and the semi were totaled.

Everyone involved is uninjured.

If you are traveling in that direction, be sure to give yourself some extra time or seek an alternate route as the accident is still being cleaned up.

Stay with 6 News and we will provide updates as soon as we have them.
