U. Mich. Group Provides $50K For Scholarship Fund

Posted: Updated:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - A University of Michigan organization is providing $50,000 to create a student-funded, need-based endowed scholarship fund.

MUSIC Matters - which stands for Michigan Undergrads Serving in the Community - created the fund with proceeds from its annual charity concert. Its spring show featured singer-songwriter and pianist Ben Folds.

The $50,000 commitment was announced this week.

Group leaders say they wanted to focus on college affordability and help gain access to the university.

MUSIC Matters previously donated $10,000 to a patient assistance fund at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. The fund helps low-income families pay for health care services.
