2 Bibles Reported Stolen From Battle Creek Church

Posted: Updated:

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - Officials say two Bibles have been stolen from a Battle Creek church.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that the large Bibles valued at about $1,200 were apparently taken Oct. 19 from St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Officials initially hoped that they had been borrowed, so the theft wasn't immediately reported to police.

The Rev. Brian Coleman says he'll accept return of the Bibles to the chapel with no questions asked - and will even have a gift for the thief or thieves.

"I have a whole shelf of Bibles," Coleman says, "and I will happily give them one."

Meanwhile, officials say another large Bible worth about $200 was discovered missing about the same time from the chapel at the Battle Creek Family YMCA.
