Leader Of Pot Legislation Predicts Legalization Next Year

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WNLS) - The leader of the marijuana legalization movement predicts Michigan lawmakers will approve legalization next year and if they don't, Michigan voters may get a shot at legalization in 2016. With republicans in firm control of the Michigan House and Senate, nobody can call either body a bastion of liberal policies, but Tim Beck believes he has a shot at convincing those conservative republicans to join with democrats to legalize marijuana in Michigan.

Beck reports that Michigan is currently a second tier state in this nationwide debate and major donors will not kick in any money until the current 52 percent support mushrooms to 57 percent.

But fresh off of decriminalization votes in Lansing and jackson Tuesday, Beck is optimistic. He says he has nine GOP House members on board, including they include Representatives Shirkey, McMillan, Bumstead, Foster, MacMaster,Kowall, Potvin, Younkers and Calton.

Rep. Mike Callton wants to tax marijuana and pour that money into highway potholes. So what is driving this movement toward legalization? Beck in blunt terms indicates as senior citizens die, public support goes up.

Beck also predicts that the two GOP leaders in the legislature will be alright and if it gets to his desk. He predicts the governor will sign it, even though legalization is on on the governor's agenda.
