East Lansing Apartment Evacuated

The East Lansing Fire Department is investigating smoke damage at Abbott Place apartments.

People on the northern tier walking trail saw smoke coming from the complex and called 911.  Crews arrived on scene a little after 1 pm to find smoke damage in a single apartment at the back of the complex.

They continued to investigate other apartments to ensure that the smoke damage did not spread. Officials say no one was home at the time, and that the smoke damage was on the deck.

"They quickly extinguished it with a can extinguisher and with that there was very minor damage to the apartment itself looks like," said Steve Alvarado, deputy chief with the East Lansing Fire Department.

Residents who lived in the building where the smoke was, were evacuated but no one was hurt.
