The magical carriage ride continued for Eaton Rapids, and there was a huge crowd on the road at DeWitt for the regional final. But Mike Smith and his cinderella team ran into the prom queen, and she was not giving up her title.
On the first DeWitt possesion, Jake johnson went to Chris Ruby. And just like that, 7-0 Panthers.
Plenty of heart on the greyhound team, but they just could not match the size of DeWitt's offensive line. Ben Heinritz, got whatever he wanted on the ground. The long runs set up his own score moments later, to make it 14-0 DeWitt.
Eaton rapids could not get anything going on offense against the talented DeWitt defense. Zachary Deak, among many other Panthers, had a big stop.
Moments later, Dewitt was back on offense, and Johnson went back to the air. He completed 11 of 16 throws and three scores, all to Chris Ruby.
Eaton Rapids did make a nice stop on fourth down late in the second quarter, as Cole Bailey blew it up in the backfield.
But that was about all for the Greyhounds in this one. They never gave up, but they just could not stop Heinritz. He went 183 yards and three trips to the endzone.
A heartbreak for the Greyhounds, but hold your heads high, Eaton Rapids. It was a season for the ages.
But DeWitt remained the class of the area in division III with a 49-0 victory. The Panthers remain undefeated and take home the regional title. Next up is a date with St. Clair in the state semis, and the Panthers just continue getting better.
