SPECIAL: Remembering JFK - 50 Years - Kennedy Detail

Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Flags are flying at half-staff and ceremonies are being held across the country, honoring President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in Dallas 50 years ago today.

A military bugler played taps Friday morning and the eternal flame flickered at the grave site of JFK in Arlington National Cemetery, outside Washington D.C.

The president's last living sibling, Jean Kennedy Smith took part in a wreath-laying ceremony.

It's a day that for people who were around for it, they still remember exactly what they were doing when they heard their president was dead.

There weren't many people closer to Kennedy that day than Clint Hill. He was the Secret Service Agent guarding the president and Mrs. Kennedy.

In 2011, WLNS sat down for an exclusive interview with Hill. He is the man who famously jumped onto the presidential limo as it sped away due to the gunshots that killed John F. Kennedy.

He says the events of that day will never escape his memory.

Watch the two part special on the Kennedy Detail above to hear how Clint Hill describes his first-hand account of the last moments of John F. Kennedy's life.

Clint Hill will also be a guest on CBS's "Face The Nation" this weekend.
