Police Investigate Armed Robberies At Sunoco Gas Station

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Police are investigating two robberies that happened this weekend in Lansing.

They started when people responded to adds on Craigslist. The victims were robbed when they met up the supposed buyer at the same Sunoco gas station in the 1700 block of Waverly.

The first happened Saturday night around 6:30 pm. Both parties agreed to meet at the Sunoco station to sell a video game system. Two men pulled a gun and robbed everybody involved.

The very next night, another group met at the same Sunoco station to sell a cell phone. Again, two men pulled guns and stole the phone and cash.

"The actual robberies, with a violent act of someone being assaulted or an actual weapon used, that's very infrequent," said Lt. Greg Frenger with Meridian Township Police.

Lt. Frenger says robbers usually look for electronics to steal.

To keep yourself safe, Craigslist offers safety types on their website. They say you should meet in a public place and never invite anyone you don't know into your home. Be careful with higher value items. Always take your cell phone with you and consider taking a friend or family member.

Some good places to meet someone when buying or selling things on Craigslist would be: a restaurant, a coffee shop or anywhere there are lots of people around and there's good lighting.
