Buena Vista Police Department Adds Humvee To Fleet

Posted: Updated:

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Buena Vista Township Police Department is the latest Saginaw County law enforcement agency to acquire surplus military vehicles for police use.

The Saginaw News reports that the department last month put a Humvee into service for use as a patrol vehicle and for special assignments. It has four-wheel drive to help in foul weather and space to carry a suspect.

Officer Jason Hendricks led the effort to acquire the vehicle at no cost through the military's 1033 surplus program. Donations from area businesses paid for customizing the Humvee. The department also received two other Humvees still to be customized for service.

The Saginaw County Sheriff's Department and Frankenmuth Police Department also have acquired vehicles through the surplus program.
