Posted: Updated:

(WLNS) - Police have identified the fisherman killed Monday due to a shark attack in Hawaii.

It happened off of Maui's southwest coast, where the 57-year-old was fishing. According to officials, Patrick Briney was in a kayak fishing, when a shark bit his dangling foot.

The man he was fishing with was in a different kayak and helped bring him to shore. Briney was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This is the eighth shark attack in Maui this year and the 13th for the state of Hawaii.
