Father Charged With Killing Infant On Trial

Posted: Updated:

MASON, Mich. (WLNS) - The murder trial for a 38-year-old Lansing man accused of killing his own infant daughter continued Tuesday.

John Sanders is charged with open murder and first degree child abuse.

Medical examiners say his 3-month-old daughter Ja'Nayjah died of severe injuries inside an apartment building on Walton Street on January 4.

According to medical examiners, the 3-month-old died from multiple head injuries, including blunt force trauma and bleeding of the brain and eyes.

Prosecutors say Sanders was alone with her at the time. The girl's mother, Shamarrie Kittle, says she was running errands when Sanders called her, saying the baby wasn't breathing. Baby Jan'Nayjah was taken to Sparrow, where she underwent surgery, but died that night.

Closing arguments are expected to begin Thursday morning.
