U. Of Michigan Delays Plans To Centralize Services

Posted: Updated:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The University of Michigan has delayed plans to centralize its human resources and financial services and cut staff in an effort to reduce costs by millions of dollars a year.

The decision on the Administrative Services Transformation project was announced Monday after opposition from faculty.

The Ann Arbor school earlier said a Shared Services Center would include 275 employees doing the work of the roughly 325 people who currently do human resource and financial service functions throughout the school. It was scheduled to open in April.

Now, committees plan look at issues including cost containment starting early next year.

The school earlier tested a shared services center in its Flemming Administration Building, when all of the administrative units there used the same human resource and finance staff.
