Kalamazoo Sheriff IDs Pedestrian Killed By Train

Posted: Updated:

OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in western Michigan have identified an 18-year-old man who was killed when an Amtrak passenger train hit him as he walked along the tracks.

The Kalamazoo County sheriff's department says last Wednesday's crash took the life of Kendall Phillips, who lived in the Kalamazoo area.

Lt. Donald Ester said in a statement Tuesday that Phillips was walking on the tracks when the Chicago-bound train hit him about 3:20 p.m. The site is in Oshtemo Township, west of Kalamazoo.

The department says Amtrak personnel saw Phillips and tried to stop the train while sounding their horn several times to warn him.
