Michigan Wildlife Officials Seek Holiday Donations

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a holiday gift suggestion: Make a donation to the state's Nongame Fish and Wildlife Fund in honor of a friend or family member.

For a donation of $20 or more, the DNR will send the recipient a certificate and a patch featuring one of Michigan's nongame species.

The fund was established in 1983. It has raised more than $9.5 million for projects that protect and restore endangered species and maintain populations of animals and plants.

Among those that have benefited from the program are peregrine falcons, trumpeter swans, piping plovers, Kirtland's warblers and lake sturgeon.
