Michigan DNR Offering Osprey Education Programs

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering a program designed to inform students and others about the comeback of the osprey in the southern part of the state.

DNR osprey experts are available to speak to classes or groups about the bird.

The program lasts about an hour and is free of charge. It includes a PowerPoint presentation and/or a game that illustrates the concept of bioaccumulation of pesticides in top predators.

Nearly absent from much of the state due to the effects of DDT and other pesticide use, the osprey population continues to rebound in southern Michigan.
