MASON, Mich. (WLNS) - Jurors have ruled that John Sanders, 38, is guilty of killing his infant daughter.

He was found guilty of felony murder and first degree child abuse in the death of 3-month-old Ja'NayJah Sanders. It happened back in January of 2013.

It took a jury about six hours of deliberation before coming to the guilty verdict. Felony murder and first degree child abuse both carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Early Thursday morning both the prosecution and the defense gave their closing arguments. Defense attorney Joe Ernst urged the jury not to be "swayed by the emotion of this case." Ultimately the jury Ernst's client guilty.

The trial took a break on Wednesday after the mother and several medical officials testified the day before.
