2nd Vigil To Mark Anniversary Of EMU Student Death

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, Mich. (AP) - A second candlelight vigil is planned for a 23-year-old Eastern Michigan University student whose bathtub drowning last December was ruled a homicide.

Family of Julia Niswender plans the Tuesday evening gathering in Monroe. A food drive at the vigil also is planned.

Niswender was a Monroe native and an undergraduate. Her body was found Dec. 11, 2012, at an apartment across the street from this school's Ypsilanti campus.

On Monday night, her family held a vigil on campus, with a walk to the vicinity of her near-campus apartment. The Ann Arbor News reports school President Susan Martin was among those in attendance and she said Niswender "was a real bright light on this campus."

Ypsilanti police said earlier this year that they had exhausted most viable leads. The investigation continues.
