LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State Police say at least eight people died in eight separate traffic crashes around the Thanksgiving holiday.

The results of preliminary reports announced Tuesday are down one from the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday period, when nine people died.

This year, police say alcohol was a factor in four of the crashes.

For the state police figures, the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday weekend ran from 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 through 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1.
