Dad Charged In Fire Deaths Of 2 Kids Alone At Home

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - The father of boys ages 1 and 4 who died in a Detroit house fire has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Kevin Washington left his sons alone in the home Friday. Police say the boys' mother was arrested the previous day for violating probation and also wasn't home.

Washington was arraigned Tuesday, and Detroit District Court Magistrate Renee McDuffy set his bond at $100,000. His probable cause hearing is Dec. 19.

Police arrested Washington on Friday on unrelated charges. He doesn't have a lawyer yet.

Firefighters discovered 4-year-old Damien Washington and 1-year-old Mekhi Williams in a bedroom.

Involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
