Red Cedar Renaissance: Developers To Pump Millions Into Mixed-Use Project

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Plans to transform the old Red Cedar Golf Course at Michigan Avenue and Clippert Street in Lansing into a multi-million dollar mixed-use development are now moving forward under the leadership of local developer and Michigan State University Trustee Joel Ferguson and Ohio-based developer Frank Kass.

Ferguson and Kass said on Thursday the project will feature hundreds of residential units, a hotel, restaurants, retail and office space. "You can expect a game changer for Lansing," said Ferguson.

The city began looking in 2012 for developers to head the project after voters approved the sale of the city-owned property. "The space between Michigan State and the state capitol, that's really our miracle mile, if you will," said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. "That should be the central gateway. That should be the red carpet when people come off 127. We need to be very inviting."

Developers say they hope to break ground on the project in late spring or early summer, pending permit approval from the state.
