Animal Shelter Hosts All-Nighter To Promote Adoption

MASON, Mich. (WLNS) -- All the animals at the Ingham County Animal Shelter want this holiday season is a place to call home.

To help make their dream a reality, the shelter plans to host its second annual Holiday All-Nighter.

"It is one of the most rewarding events that we do all year long. Anybody that is here will tell you, there's a lot of crying, people are just so happy and joyful," said Ingham County Animal Control Director Jamie McAloon Lampman.

Friday the shelter plans to close its doors at 4 p.m. and then volunteers will come and reopen the shelter from 4:01 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday. Dog and cat adoptions are $25, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and a micro-chip.

"It's great. It's like million dollar moments constantly as they go out the door and get adopted. You couldn't trade it for a million dollars," McAloon Lampman said.

Nearly 50 animals were adopted during last year's 12 hour event. For the dogs and cats who aren't adopted, they still spend the holidays at a loving home.

"When we leave for the holidays, we think about all those animals in those cages and you can't not think about them because they had families before. They'll do anything to curl up in your lap or lay by your feet or touch you," McAloon Lampman said.

For the fifth year in a row, the shelter will host Home for the Holidays. Saturday it plans to send the remaining animals home with foster families for 10 days.

"I would say out of all the animals that go into the Home for the Holidays foster program, less than 15% come back," McAloon Lampman said.

Which is great news for the adoring animals, because they'd give anything just to have a loving home.
