Lansing Mall Back Open After Gas Leak

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A gas leak shut down the Lansing Mall early Monday morning, causing a brief delay in holiday shopping.

The mall, located on the 5000 block of W. Saginaw, is now back open.

Delta Twp. Fire Chief John Clark said a plow truck ran over and ruptured the main gas line. The leak then filled the mall with gas and crews evacuated the building. "The main portion is between Men's Warehouse and Chipotle in that secion, but because of the risk of explosion, the whole mall was evacuated," said Chief Clark.

The mall remained closed for six hours while police and fire and Consumers Energy crews all worked to fix the line and clear the gas.

Doors re-opened around noon, but some shops remained closed until even later. The mall used its Facebook page to keep shoppers in the know of when they were opening.
