Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - With Christmas nine days away many Michiganders and even Santa himself are doing some last minute shopping.

But are you making the proper budget for these items?

To help break down how to carefully plan financially this season, 6 News spoke with Amber Paxton of the City of Lansing's Financial Empowerment Center.

The financial center recommends Michigander's to not get wrapped up in the holiday spirit by over spending.

The center says begin saving in January.

To begin recovering from Christmas spending, the financial empowerment center says break your Christmas debt into three months and pay them off each month.

To book your free financial counseling appointment with the center call 2-1-1.

All sessions are free. All income levels are welcome.
